Central to the success of our organisation is our team of over 150 volunteers who join us on a week's residential camping holiday to care for the children and ensure they enjoy an adventure holiday they will never forget!
Providing holidays for up to 60 children per week, the five groups of approx. 30 helpers look after the children and share in a fantastic holiday in the great outdoors!
Volunteering for camp might also involve cooking, helping out with equipment or welfare support; but will always involve some great walks in the countryside, campfires, trips to adventure playgrounds & swimming, craft & games, the odd impromptu water fight and generally ensuring everyone has a fantastic time!
Our Summer Camp volunteers come from a huge range of backgrounds - old and young, experienced or working with children for the very first time, hardened campers and... not! In each team you will find volunteers who have been on Camp for many years and many who will be volunteering for the very first time. There will be child care professionals, teachers, managers, students, cooks, plumbers, engineers, factory workers, gardeners, retired people... The list goes on!
Our volunteers come from every imaginable background with at least one thing in common; a warmth, kindness and enthusiasm to give their time, joy and energy to kids who need a break.
All meals and trips during Camp are paid for by DKC and tents are available if you do not have your own. Please note that we are unable to provide travelling expenses, though transport from Derby to Camp and back again is available should you require it.
All DKC volunteers are subject to an advanced DBS (previously CRB) check and references prior to approval. Training is provided both prior to Camp (all new volunteers will be required to attend our Derby-based Training Day) and on Camp itself.
