Chris Edwards Chairman, Derby Kids' Camp


Chris Edwards
Chris Edwards has been Chairman of Derby Kids' Camp Committee and a Trustee of the Charity since 2010.
Having been a volunteer with DKC for over 15 years, Chris is also an active member during Summer Camp. He has a number of years experience as a Summer Camp Leader, but is now happy to sit back with a cuppa as Deputy and let some of the younger volunteers have a go!
With many years of management experience in the commercial sector at CIE-Group where he is Marketing Director, he delivers expertise in management, sales & marketing and brand awareness to the Charity.
Chris is also an experienced Foster Carer for Derbyshire County Council and a very proud dad!

Cat Howourth joined DKC in 2010 as a Summer Camp volunteer and during that period has held various Committee roles in fundraising and Volunteer Rep.
Cat's daytime job is as a trainer for assistance dogs with people with physical disabilities. In her spare time, Cat plays American Football!


Sammie Charnock, Derby Kids' Camp

Sammie Charnock joined Derby Kids' Camp in 2015 and quickly fell in love with everything DKC offered! So, after just ONE camp, she volunteered to become part of committee and now has a few years' experience in fundraising under her belt!
Sammie's daytime job is as a Learning Support Assistant in a Special Needs School in Derby.

Vicky Varney
Fundraising Officer
Vicky Varney joined Derby Kids' Camp as a Summer Camp Volunteer in 2015.  After running a very successful Golf Day fin 2017 to raise money for the charity, Vicky decided to join committee in September 2017 to continue her fundraising work for DKC.
Vicky currently works part-time as a functions supervisor, and is looking forward to beginning her studies in Special Educational Needs and Disability in September 2018.
Pete Kay
Pete Kay is one of the charity's most experienced volunteers with decades of active service for the Group!
Over the year's Pete has been an active volunteer during Summer Camp and has also undertaken many Trustee roles including Treasurer, Equipment Officer and most recently Camp Organiser.
Pete has now returned to his previous role of Treasurer, where he's responsible for keeping the books in order and the financial management of the charity.

Publicity Officer

Hannah Wade joined Derby Kids' Camp as a Summer Camp volunteer in 2012 and quickly joined her brother George as an enthusiastic member of the Fundraising Team the following year.
Hannah has been a key contributor to the charity's recent online marketing activities and has stepped into the role of Publicity Officer to encourage further online activity.
Hannah is a peripatetic music teacher working with primary school children throughout South East Derbyshire.

Joining DKC on summer camp of 2013, George was given the job of equipment lead assistant where he was able to call on his experience as a scout leader to keep camp standing. George quickly became further involved with DKC  equipment joining the committee in 2014 and taking joint lead of equipmemt in 2015.
In George's time away from the DKC stores he is an engineer at Rolls Royce and enjoys walking camping and making things in his home workshop!
Patrick Rix
Equipment Officer
Pat has been a Summer Camp Volunteer since 2009. More recently he has taken on additional roles as Deputy Camp Leader and Equipment Officer.
Pat's day job is working as a microbiologist for a manufacturer, and he uses the knowledge from this job to advise the DKC committee on equipment related issues.

Leane has been a Volunteer Organiser since September 2015, and after a few years of running the role as part of a pair she now has her first year solo! Leane brings her fantastic organisational skills to the role, which involves receiving and processing over 150 volunteer applications each year, along with ensuring all the DBS and reference checks are completed promptly so that all our volunteers are ready to go in time for camp.
Leane's day job is working as a Primary School teacher in Derby.

Avis Butcher
Charity Secretary
Avis Butcher joined the Derby Kids' Camp team in 2011 after reading about the Organisation's work online. She became the Charity Secretary in 2012 bringing a wealth of administration and organisational skills having previously worked as a PA at the University of Derby.

Wayne Gresham
Camp Organiser

Wayne Gresham's first experience of Derby Kids' Camp was in 1990 when he was nominated by his school to go on a holiday provided by the group.
He enjoyed his time there so much, that in 2002 he decided to return as a volunteer to help ensure other kids would receive the same fun and exciting holidays that he himself had the privilege to attend.
Wayne has previously worked on committee as an Equipment Officer, and this year he is the Camp Organiser - ensuring that every food delivery, bus trip and portaloo is in place for the 300 children who will visit Derby Kids' Camp this summer.
In the 'real world', Wayne works as a Facilities Operator for Western Power Distribution, where he helps to maintain a number of offices around the East & West Midlands.
