There are endless deserving charity organisations in Derby, and, during the Christmas period, thoughts often turn towards those less fortunate then ourselves who may not be able to experience the joys of the season. The Landau Forte College BTEC Business Year 13 group got together as a team to organise an event as part of their studies. The unit ‘Managing a Business Event’ gives the students an opportunity to be event organisers and use many skills which will undoubtedly serve them well whatever career path they choose to follow.
On the last day of the winter 2016 term, the students organised a Christmas Charity Day. Students throughout the College were encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper to school and donate £1 towards the fundraising efforts. The BTEC students each chose a smaller event they could manage and in teams came up with the ideas of ‘message in a stocking’ delivered by Santa; Christmas karaoke in the restaurant; food stalls; Christmas cake ’guess the weight’ and a Christmas photo booth.
Derby Kids' Camp chairman Chris Edwards was recently invited into the College to be presented with a cheque for £828 towards the costs of Summer 2017.
"It is always a great pleasure to meet face to face with those who have worked so hard to fundraise for the Charity." said Chris, "And when the generosity and hard work comes from people who were only very recently children themselves, it is fantastic to see their understanding of the changes they can make to other children in the City. On behalf of everyone at Derby Kids' Camp - and most importantly on behalf of the children who will enjoy a wonderful holiday this summer - a HUGE thank you to everyone at Landau Forte College Derby for your support!"
