So as Derby Kids' Camp 2015 drew nearer with no wood for the 5 weeks of Summer Camp, we were left with something of a problem - where would the wood come from?.. can campfire songs be sung with no fire?.. and would the future of 100 people singing very silly songs at the tops of their voices and dancing even sillier dances every night be in jeapordy?!?..
Following a call out for help, the nightime fun for over 300 disadvantaged young children was saved thanks to the fantastic support of leading UK logisitics company DHL.
Hearing of our plight, DHL came to the rescue by not only supplying 300 pallets (enough wood for 30 fantastic camp fires over the summer), but also delivering them to site - all free of charge.
Derby Kids' Camp Chairman, Chris Edwards, thanked the DHL team for their support by saying "The free holidays we provide for many of Derby's most deserving young children are all about the great outdoors and allowing the children to express themselves in a new environment. Camp fires may seem like a simple thing, but by encouraging the children to sing at their loudest and dance at their daftest, brings them closer together and really develops thier confidence. And besides, who wants to go camping without a campfire before bed!
We are so grateful to DHL for coming to the rescue at the last moment and so generously saving such a key part of this year's Summer Camp!"
Derby Kids' Camp provides free camping holidays for over 300 disadvantaged young children from the Derby and Derbyshire areas every year and is staffed by a team of more 150 unpaid volunteers.
